![]() With over 100,000,000 registered users of the site, word has spread far and wide about the wonders that can be located on eBay. Yes, that really is what the category is called. They are: Antiques, Art, baby, Books, Bueness and Industrial, Cameras and Photo, Cell Phones and PDA’s, Clothing Shoes and Accessories, Coins and Paper Money, Collectables, Computers and Networking, Crafts, Dollss and Bears, DVDs and Movies, eBay Motors, Electronics, Entertainment Memorabilia, Gift Certificates, Health and Beauty, Hone and Garden, Jewelry and Watches, Music, Musical Instruments, Pet Supplies, Pottery and Glass, Real Estate, Specialty Services, Sporting Goods, Sports Memoribilia, Cards and Fan Shop, Stamps, Tickets, Toys and Hobbies, Travel, Video Games, and Everything Else. The general catagories are broken into thirty five pieces. A glimpse into the specificity of that category reveals the mini-gories of buillion, US coins, Canadian coins, Ancient coins, World coins, Exunomia (for those in the know), US paper money, world paper money, publications and supplies, stocks, bonds, scripophily (again, for those in the know) and Other for anything that might not so cleanly fit in the mini-gories. For example, there is a category marked “Coins and Paper Money” for the consumer who might want to spend his hard-earned money on someone else’s money. The catagories are broken down in generalities with the option to hone the search for something more specific. A simple click on the view all catagories button provides the consumer with a glance of all that can be acquired with a simple key stroke. With its vast selection of goods, ranging from laser pointers, to cars, to baby clothing, to furniture and video games, if you cannot find a product on eBay, one has to wonder whether that item exists anymore. So someone in Italy might use the eBay Italia site in order to find that elusive Italian Stallion Pez despenser. eBay has provided localized websites in thirty other countries. The website as grown beyond is original U.S. Fact or fiction, it can be said in no uncertain terms that any collector of Pez dispensers is incredibly glad to have eBay in existence. That story was debunked however by Adam Cohen in his tome, “The Perfect Store.” eBay is said to have confirmed the debunking. An urban legend (if it can be called that) would have us believe that the site was founded by our friend Pierre as a forum in which his fiancée could buy and sell her beloved Pez dispensers. With all of the variety of love and interest that can be produced by the six billion individuals on this earth, eBay provides an interface in which to view that which makes the buyer happy and/or interested. The world is comprised of every variation of person it is possible to conceive. It has been told that the founder sold this broken item for $14.83 to a consumer who was not mistaken in his purchase (as the flabbergasted Omidyar originally thought) but was actually a self described collector of broken laser pointers. A broken laser pointer is said to have been the first billions of items to by sold on eBay. Springing into life (originally as AuctionWeb) from San Jose, California in September of 1995, by visionary Pierre Omidyar (Iranian by blood, French born) eBay has become a part of cultures throughout the world. About ebayĮBay is an online auction website.
